Building Reading Success Teacher Assessment creation

Building Reading Success with Wiley Blevins is a module-based intervention program authored by Wiley Blevins.  The program includes interactive assessments and module placement recommendation based on student spelling and phonemic awareness.  This article guides the teacher through creating and administering an assessment.

To assign, teachers can expand the Assessment menu and Choose Interactive.

The recommended staring point is Module Placement Assessment.  Any Interactive Assessment item can be assigned*.

There are three implementation options for administering the Module Placement assessment.

Self Guided Assessment allows the student to access the interactive assignment, record themselves and submit for the instructor to grade at a later time.  This option provides the students' recorded responses to the instructor on the grading page.

Teacher Administered Assessment with Student Recording option allows students to access the interactive assignment and record themselves while the teacher analyzes and grades them.  Students will not see the assignment once the teacher grades them.

Teacher Administered Assessment without Student Recording option allows the teacher to analyze and grade the student while they use the PDF version of the assessment.  Students do not open a corresponding interactive assignment in Sadlier Connect.

* only the Module Placement Assessment has implementation options.

Students can access the Self Guided and the Teacher-Administered with Student Recording assessment by choosing Interactive: Module Placement Assessment from the Assignments list.

Students will not open a corresponding interactive assignment in Sadlier Connect if the teacher chooses the implementation option "Teacher Administered Assessment without Student Recording".

Students will be asked to allow the recording feature to use the microphone on their device.  Once audio is allowed, students can start recording.

At any time, students can pause the recording, and either resume the recording or save and exit the assessment.

Once a student has reached the last word, they can stop recording and submit their recording to the teacher.  Once the assignment is graded by the teacher, it will have the status "completed".

On the Assignments tab, Teachers can grade the assessment by clicking the grade button of the assignment and choosing Grade Assignment.

On the grading page, teachers can listen to each individual student's recording and checkmark the word Accurate and Fluent or Accurate and Not Fluent.  Leave blank (no checkmark) for Not Accurate.

Teachers can also leave a comment for each word.

The Accuracy and Fluency are automatically tallied, but the rate must be selected before the grading can be saved.

Once saved, the next assessment for the student will be recommended.  The item listed is a link that will allow the teacher to assign the recommended item to the student.
